A new book from the author of the popular calligraphing-and-ink-making-book, ‘I like my calligraphies’ tells the story of how a young man named Steve learned to draw in his spare time, with his dad as a teacher.
“My dad had me draw,” Steve says.
“I loved the process, it was so easy.
It’s the process of trying to get your words in right in front of you and not having to worry about the brush and the pen.”
“I think that was a huge benefit,” he continues.
“You get to see your words clearly, you’re seeing the brush, you can see the ink and you can actually see how the strokes are formed and how they blend together.
I can’t say I learned anything new from that.”
Steve also wrote about his artistic and creative process in the book, and the stories behind the artwork in the pages of the book.
“It was definitely a learning experience, because I didn’t want to just draw a picture of myself,” he says.
The book is a collaboration between two of the authors, who first met through art school.
“There’s always something you want to learn, and I had this vision of what I wanted to be,” he explains.
“So I started writing it down.”
Steve says he wanted to write a book about himself because he felt like it was important for him to talk about what he was doing, how he got started, and what his life has been like.
“For me, it’s a way to show what’s been going on in my life, and why I like it,” he reveals.
“This book is just me telling my story and trying to give some perspective, and to try to make people think about it in a different way.
So it’s not like a book that’s like, ‘This is how I’ve been living my life.’
It’s a different perspective.”
